Welcome to the 2018-19 LYBA Season!

Here, you'll be able to get news, information, rosters, schedules, traveling directions, and much more. Check back frequently for the latest information on our organization.

The LYBA (Lexington Youth Basketball Association) is a Winter Travel Team program for  boys and girls, grades 4-8, that are residents of the Town of  Lexington, Massachusetts.  Emphasis is on skills and team play development.  We want Lexington kids to love basketball!!!

Our season starts in September with Fall Clinics and Ratings Nights for boys and girls in the 4th through 8th grades. We also offer clinics for 2nd and 3rd graders. Teams are formed based on ratings, and coaches are named after the teams are formed. All grades may have an A, B, and C team, depending on the number of players registered.  LYBA strives to place all registrants onto teams, but sometimes there are cuts.  Eligibility is grade (not age) based, no exceptions.

First Practices are early to mid-November. First Games are after Thanksgiving, although sometimes teams have scrimmages before then. Teams will have 1-2 practices per week, on weeknights, and 1-2 games on weekends. Typically, teams will not play during school vacations, though some may elect to enter tournaments during the December holiday break and February vacation break. Season concludes in early March, typically with Playoffs and Tournaments.

For Practices, see Master Schedule here at www.lexhoops.com.  For games, go to www.metrowestbball.com

Coaches for Cancer/Win for Quinn!

Dear LYBA Friends and Families,

I hope this letter finds you well.  Again this year the LYBA will be partnering with the Lexington High School to support Coaches vs. Cancer.  Kindly save the date and join us for the boys annual Coaches vs. Cancer Game this Friday, January 18th at Winchester High School at 7:00 p.m.   Admission fee is expected to be $5.00 - $10.00 with proceeds to be donated to each team’s cause.

Additionally, the entire Lexington Community is engaged in fundraising this month to honor Lexington’s Quinn Amsler and raise money for pediatric cancer in his memory alongside another Winchester family/cause.

"Q" cards will be used to create Walls of Hope at both LHS (for the freshman and girls' game) and at Winchester on Friday night.

The cards are available for at:

  • The Amsler Home, 6 Hampton Rd
  • Wagon Wheel, 927 Waltham St.
  • Cambridge Savings Bank, 1781 Massachusetts Ave.

The “Q” cards should be filled out with the name of a loved one who is fighting cancer or has battled cancer or in memory of someone lost to cancer. Any donation that you feel is appropriate is appreciated. Checks may be made payable to: Dana Farber with "Quinn Amsler Fund" in the memo.

PLEASE VISIT ONE OF THESE LOCATIONS BY FRIDAY AT NOON SO THEY MAY BE HUNG UP ON THE WALL AT THE EVENT.

Funds from 1/2 the admission and concession fees, the Q card sales and the Red Sox raffle will be donated to The Quinn Amsler Fund at Dana Farber, which was set up in Quinn’s memory after his death on July 3, 2016 after a 15 month battle with alveolar rhabdomyosarcoma, a rare pediatric cancer.

Quinn Amsler’s brother, Will plays on the varsity team and will be playing during the event. His older brother Jack also played 4 years at LHS.  Quinn’s dad coached his boys while they played LYBA and Quinn’s mom was a board member and in charge of the uniforms for several years. Quinn was an avid basketball player and a Bridge Elementary School student.  Many of Q’s classmates, friends and team mates from AAU basketball and in-town basketball now play on our LYBA teams.

The Cambridge Savings Bank will sponsor the Red Sox raffle at the event.

Here is a link to a video created after last year’s  game and it gives details about the Fund. https://www.youtube.com/watch?

Kindly share the link and spread the word about the event and the Q cards.

The Amsler Family thanks you for supporting them throughout their journey and remembering Quinn in this beautiful and meaningful way
